Acrylic Painting Creating a Landscape Creating Abstracts Watercolour

CREATING ABSTRACTS

'Abstract' mean non recognisable form. Composition is very important in abstraction.

You also need a 'concept'. A concept is how you want your painting to look. The simple concepts are the best. 'Light and shade' for example or 'colour' or 'strong form' or 'iinterpretive'

Before you start painting. COMPOSE AND GIVE YOURSELF A CONCEPT.
KEEP THIS CONCEPT IN YOUR MIND ALL THE TIME YOU ARE PAINTING

CANVAS

ABSTRACTION

Kandinsky is recognised as the first true abstract artist. He was painting images like this in 1911. He is a very good artist to learn colour balance, form and tonal values in abstraction

REMEMBER YOUR COMPOSITION.

Have you heard of the 'Golden Section'? or 'Golden Mean'

It's complicated but if you just take the essentials from it and break your canvas down into 9 equal sections - you can work out the perfect 'harmony' of space.

'Harmony is the key word. 'Harmony is what most buyers are looking for and 'Harmony' is what most artists are seeking. (just think about all the famous and successful artists - aren't all their paintings harmonious?)

Fibonacci was one of the mathmeticians in the 18th century who established the golden section.

It's all about ensuring you do not have a horizon line in the middle of the painting but near the top third or the bottom third. And composition that fills your harmonious sections.

Abstraction relies on good tonal values, form and colour.

COLOUR CAN MAKE FORM

There are no distinct 'shapes' in this abstraction. It is only, colour and texture that create this abstract painting.

You can be brave with abstraction and create your own exciting methods of working and composition.

Although 'Abstract' there is strong composition - still along the 'Golden Section' compositional values.

Strong brush marks, strong colour. A different technique from the painting above but still abstract.

Natural form is a good inspiration for abstraction.

Keep a notebook of wonderful shapes you see around you.

Keep you colour palette organised. Get together only the colours you want to use.

A simple colour scheme is often the most successful.

Experiment with colour

Experiment with brush strokes

Think about your edges - hard or soft?

Think about your concept.

Experiment - take risks.

If you can afford the Professional paints - buy them you will
find them completely different to the 'student' paints.

Buy the best brushes you can afford. Da Vinci are the best
professional brushes.

Use long handled brushes and hold near the end of the handle.

HELPFUL TIP
